Joel Le Bow

Joel Le Bow cont...Joel Le Bow

In New York, his studio was on 8th Street in Greenwich Village, five doors east of the CedarTavern. There, he met and conversed with many of the giants of the abstract expressionist period. Although 15-20 years younger, he absorbed the enthusiasm, the creative and the combative attitudes that impacted the art world…and Le Bow as a painter.

Over the ensuing years, his work kept some of its roots in abstract expressionism while utilizing other forms to express the human condition. Over six decades, the years as an abstract expressionist still hold a place in his current work. It now hovers between the abstract and a potential for realism, unique to each viewer. Le Bow describes his work as Abstract- Surrealism, with a mission to create visual partnerships that stir memories and feelings.

Le Bow’s works have been widely exhibited over the past sixty years and are represented in public, private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Japan, Russia, The People’s Republic of China, Germany, Norway, Costa Rica, and Ireland. His paintings have been seen in over 44 one person shows; 46 juried or curated exhibits; 28 selected invitational shows; and over 50 gallery group showings.
